FAQ
Swimming instructor jobs — common questions
Q
Can I work just one day a week, or weekends only?
A
Yes — shifts are completely flexible. Even one day a week or two hours a day is fine. Available between 09:00 and 21:00. Parents often prefer weekday mornings; students and those with a second job typically go for evenings or weekends. Just tell us what works for you.
Do I need swim coaching experience to apply?
Q
A
For private lessons, all ages and experience levels are welcome — including those with no coaching background. Swim or competitive experience is a plus. For group school coaching and OneTenth adaptive swimming, some relevant background is preferred, but our training programme will support you regardless.
How are lesson schedules arranged?
Q
A
For trial lessons, Swimmy matches student and instructor availability. Once a student enrols, you coordinate schedules directly with them — giving you maximum flexibility over your own timetable.
How are transport and facility costs handled?
Q
A
Transport and facility fees are included in your lesson pay. If the round-trip transport cost exceeds ¥1,000 or the facility fee exceeds ¥500, the difference is reimbursed separately.
Are there appearance or dress code rules?
Q
A
We keep it relaxed. Hair style, clothing, nails, piercings, and facial hair are generally fine as long as safety and a professional appearance are maintained during lessons. Swimmy uniforms are provided.
Can I apply as an English-speaking instructor?
Q
A
Absolutely. We actively hire English-speaking swim coaches and have bilingual operations support at our Yaesu, Yoyogi, and U.S. Embassy (EWA) pool locations. English lessons come with an additional ¥500 per session. International instructors are very welcome.
Valued experience
Your background is an asset
